Canine Obedience Training

Richter Animal Hospital offers in-house canine obedience training.  Our resident trainer, Becky Cross, is a certified pet dog trainer, as well as a registered veterinary technician.  Becky trains based on pack theory, food incentive and positive reinforcement.

There are several training packages available depending on the age and the needs of your dog:
  • Puppy Obedience Class
These classes are designed for puppies 6 months of age and under.  They are taught once a week for six weeks.  Puppies will learn basic obedience skills, such as:  Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Down.  Each session also includes "puppy play time" in which puppies will learn important skills, such as proper greeting etiquette, play etiquette, and socialization.  Most importantly, we have tons of fun!

  • Private Lessons
These lessons are designed for dogs that are too old for the puppy class, or that just need some individual attention.  Subjects taught and learned in these lessons are up to you; anything from basic obedience for the adult dog, to pinpointing problems such as jumping.  As with the puppies, lessons are designed to be fun and successful.

  • Boarded Training
This type of training is for adult dogs only.  Boarded training is designed for owners that cannot attend regularly scheduled classes or lessons due to work, school, etc.  Dogs are boarded in the boarding facility at Richter Animal Hospital and are provided with food, water, bedding, and training sessions multiple times daily.  As with the private lessons, subjects taught and learned while in training are up to you.  In addition to the daily training sessions, they will also have relaxing play sessions.

  • Customized Training
If the training programs described above don't fit in your schedule, or just don't seem right for you, Becky will customize a program to fit your needs.
